The Perfect Book Talk

May 1st 2010 was a beautiful and sunny Saturday. I gave my first book talk at The Schertz Library. I came across some really interesting people. At first I was thinking, I wouldn’t know how to pull this off. All I can remember from when I was younger about giving speeches is being a giggle box. That’s however when I was younger so things have most defiantly changed, and when it comes to something you are most passionate about, what matters the most is simply just getting the message across. So I had found in the spirits of these wonderful people that I had fulfilled my goal, they were most open and interested in hearing what I had to say. One person I connected with was a metaphysical poet who has hopes to publish her own collection of poetry. She gladly told me she had been writing for a while, and always wanted to publish a book, but she felt her material had machured a little bit more to do so. I also met a teacher, a very kind lady who really liked people. She teaches math and science to middleschool. She says even though she teaches math and science she loves reading to them, and reading is theraphy. I also connected with a beautiful mom and her two kids. Reading them a few poems from the book caught they’re interest, and the little girl amazed with a smile tells her mom the poetry is really good. That tells me people of all age groups can enjoy my book. The mother really loved my poetry about the babies. She says it’s really interesting because every poem written tells a story. It is great to learn new perspectives about the book from others. I always love compliments, and even constructive thoughts at times could never spoil the fun, but only help me along the way to the mastery of my writing. I always tell every one to leave comments here and there.

When Spontainety Meets Spark- ” A Dream Is Born.”

Writing has always been an adventure for me. After exploring the avenues of career interest in my life, at the age of 27, I have finally discovered my niche, what I would like to believe is a sacred calling. Every one has a passion, some thing they love and enjoy more then anything, which brings spontainety and spark into they’re lives. The mastery of the mystery is just discovering it and living with it in the moment. In all aspects of writing for the present time I enjoy my poetry. The thing that I find the most fascinating about it, is that it is a whole another world of discovery. From my point of view it allows the writer to venture deep into the core of soul’s being, capturing the essence and collaboration of life’s irony. It is said even by famous poets that some poetry cannot be understood, is not meant to be understood, but translates in the heart. That gives new meaning to me for words with sentences conjoined, with meshed thoughts and emotions. There is no formula for poetry, it just is. The art of appreciation comes with the consensus of soul to a new found understanding when learning to enjoy and embrace it. I think really that is all that needs to be understood when we read some thing we disect  to find it’s simple meaning and reason.  There is a balance of the rational with the abstract, giving the emphasis of expression. I will continue to learn and explore the education of poetry and embrace it’s hidden potentials. Some of my idols in writing are  Emerson, Thoreau and the lovely writer of colorful artsy books, Sark.

The History Of Poetry

It is said poetry originated from the earlier times of ancient history. It was used as a tool for communication, record of history, cultural prayers and tributes which then became meshed with the ryththmic sounds and medley of words and music like a lyre. Though poetry was explored and written in almost every culture in some form or fashion around the world, it is said that the Ancient Greeks are credited with modernizing poetry into what it has become today. In exploring our education to poetry we can learn much from the philosophies of the Greek culture. However we can also keep an open mind to the eras of influenced time periods, to analyze the shift of writing forms and styles, taking in other view points and emphasis as well on the modernization of poetry. I have found much amazement in the writings of our earliest American poets, and reading they’re words of thoughts and emotions is like taking a stroll back in time. It is great how poetry can open the mind and transform the spirit into the evolution of existence.
