Great Comments
I have been receiving some great feedback on my book, One Arm Boy in a Two Arm World. Dr. Scott Parma, a physician in Montgomery, AL, whom I do not know personally, called to say how much he enjoyed the book. He said he seldom ever reads a book but once he started reading, he could not put it down. He finished it in one sitting.
Dr. Athena Phan, another physician in Montgomery said she could hardly read it because she kept crying. However she also finished it without stopping. She loved it too.
Mrs. Bessie Fowler, a ninety-one year old great-grandmother wrote DM a four page letter telling him how wonderful the book was and how it brought back many special memories. She said he was an inspiration and she wanted all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to read it.
It is very humbling to have people I don’t even know tell me how much they love the book. It is nice when family and friends say they like it but then I wonder if they are saying it just because they love me or if they really do like it. However, when strangers make an effort to get in touch with me to say they like it then it makes me feel very pleased.
Thank you God for giving me the knowledge and the will to have written this book. I pray people will continue to be blessed by it and perhaps inspired to do their very best regardless of their circumstances.
Book Signing
There will be an Alumni Reunion at Billingsley High School in Billingsley, AL on June 12th starting at 10;00 am. I will be at the reunion signing both of my books, One-Arm Boy in a Two-Arm World and The Adventures of Slump Thacker. Lunch will be served at a cost of $12 per person.
Letter from Bobby Bright
Today I received a very nice letter from Congressman Bobby Bright. My friend and Weight Watcher Coach, Jon Lee Finnegan sent him a copy of my book. He actually took the time to contact Tate Publishing to find out how to get in contact with me.
In the letter he thanked me for the book, One-Arm Boy in a Two-Arm World. His family was sharecroppers too. He says, and I quote, I am looking forward to reading the book and recalling our shared experience of growing up as sharecropper’s children. It was not always an easy life but it was a happy one and I wouldn’t change it for the world.
I feel honored to serve Alabama in Washington D. C., but there is no where I would rather be than home. I thank you for sending me this excellent book about a place and people I cherish.
Book signing May 29th
I will be holding a book signing Saturday May 29th at Peach Park in Clanton, AL. I will be there from 11:00 am till 3:00 pm. Come on out. Make a day of it. Buy a book and talk with me and my brother, DM. The park has delicious bar-b-que, fried peach pies, ice cream, cakes, and other delicious items. Let the kids enjoy the playground while you sit in the shade and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Hope to see you there.
Hello world!
As many of you already know I had my first booksigning at Billingsley High School on March 13th. We had a better than expected turn out. Approximately two hundred people were in attendance. The food was excellent thanks to Carol Harrell and her daughter and grand daughter. The band Fibergrass did an excellent job too. I would also like to thank Mark and Charlotte Jarrett, Linda and Lyndsey Majors, Vicky Benton-McCaig, Alegra Sustar, and of course my husband, Gary, for helping me organize the event.
I’ve had wonderful feedback from all those who have purchased the book. In fact, both DM and I have received many requests to purchase extra copies for their families and friends.
I hope you enjoy visiting my webisite on a weekly basis. I will be posting a new short story each week. So come back and visit as often as you can. Please leave comments about this site and what you’ve seen and read. Tell your friends and family too. An author is only as popular as his or her fans make them.
God Bless you all and hang in there like a rusty fish hook.
