I wrote “God Did It: not the Big Bang and Evolution” for one reason: because I
am deeply disturbed and deeply dismayed by the trends I see in our world today. It
seems that people have little concern about spiritual things; we seem to be living in a
society where material things are consuming all our time, interest, and efforts.
As the problems multiply and grow unchecked, it becomes evident that
government has no real solution to our societal deterioration and fragmentation.
At some point we as a people must look to a source greater than ourselves to
find answers. And who is greater? Only God.
God is not receiving the honor, reverence, and worship which is due Him as
our Creator and Sustainer, as the source of every blessing we enjoy.
This disregard and indifference toward God began three generations ago when schools and colleges began teaching the Big Bang and Evolution Theories as if they were scientifically proven fact. Each of these theories reject God as nonexistent and unnecessary. In light of this, it is a miracle that eighty percent of Americans still believe there is a God!
My book presents the other side of the story, with evidence from scientists who
reject these theories, with my own perception of their flaws, and with Bible references
that illustrate that the Bible itself has scientific revelations written thousands of years
before men discovered the truth.
Our nation was founded by God-honoring, God-fearing men who understood that their strength, wisdom, and guidance must come from God if they were to over-come the greatest military power on earth at that time. They sought the counsel and help of God by prayer and by resort to the Holy Bible. And the result was that God gave us the most prosperous, free, blessed nation in the world. Might it not be wise for ourselves to consult the Unchanging God of the Bible whose blessing we see slipping away in our economic woes, our increasing natural disasters, in the dangers of terrorists acts, in the hatred of many envious nations that work against us?
Let us look back for a moment to better times of the past. There was a time when even unbelievers, who seldom, if ever, attended a church, nonetheless had a respect for the Bible, even if it were based upon a fear that there was a God, who one day might call them to account, or whether it was but a superstitious emotional response that here was something they didn’t understand; but it was best not to anger the God it represented. Whatever the reason, the Bible was not ridiculed, its adherents were not caricatured in movies or TV as ignorant fanatics with mental deficiencies, its message was not deliberately distorted in books, news reports, periodicals, and virtually every media available to those who hate it.
Some of the most virulent attacks have come from those who work in scientific fields, who feel it is incumbent upon themselves to discredit anything that is based upon faith in God; the dominant scientific fraternity will not accept those who do not conform to their views of what a real scientist must be. Thus much of what is presented as scientifically correct is often tainted with the bias required to support their preconceived ideas of how things must be, and anyone or anything which disturbs their viewpoint must be squelched or labeled bad science.
This book will present many of the questionable claims of each theory. Not only should we be alarmed at the loss of free expression, but should be equally concerned about the integrity and ethics of “scientists” who force us to accept false, outdated, or scientific conclusions which have been shown to be wrong. We are seeing the results of such practices today when medicines are sold which have caused deaths instead of curing the problem. We are seeing the results of miscalculations by economists that have caused financial crises. We are being asked to drastically alter our lifestyle on the unproven claim of global warming caused by carbon dioxide; there are many, many other factors to consider such as destruction of rain forests, changes in the ocean, and mainly changes in the sun’s energy cycles. Has anyone asked why the ice ages occurred, followed by warming which reversed the environment? How many factories and autos were there at those periods that were responsible for such events?
From Signs of Intelligence, by William A. Dembski and others, comes this very telling excerpt from a New York Review of Books, which quotes geneticist Richard Lewontin of Harvard, who states:
“Our willingness to accept scientific claims that are against common sense is the key to an understanding of the real struggle between science and the supernatural. We take the side of science in spite of its failure to fulfill many of its extravagant promises of health and life, in spite of the tolerance of the scientific community of unsubstantiated just-so stories, because we have a prior commitment to materialism. It is not that the methods and institutions of science somehow compel us to accept a material explanation of the phenomenal world, but on the contrary, that we are forced by our presumptive adherence to material causes to create an apparatus of investigation and a set of concepts that produce material explanations, no matter how counterintuitive, no matter how mystifying to the uninitiated. Moreover, that materialism is absolute, for we cannot allow a Divine Foot in the door.”
This speaks of the overwhelming bias of the scientific community in favor of humanism, and natural causes to explain everything, while totally excluding every possibility of God; this bias affects every conclusion reached, and assures that true scientific method is not being used, which should seek truth by every possible legitimate means.
The biased scientists of whom we write dismiss the Bible as “absurd, just a collection of myths and fairy tales.” We will not dismiss the theories of these people as “absurd.” Nor will we resort to name calling, insults, and ridicule such as we hear from atheists and evolutionists Richard Dawkins, Eugenie Scott, or Paul Zachary Myers; these are the desperate tactics of people who cannot defend their indefensible positions. Rather will we follow the wise counsel of God.
“Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD” (Isaiah 1:18 KJV).
Let us then consider which is the most reasonable: man’s theories or God’s Word.
We will see Bible passages that reveal scientific truths written by God’s Holy Spirit thousands of years ago that science has only recently discovered.
It is to unbelievers, doubtless to a large extent because they really have no knowledge of the Bible at all, or have prejudiced opinions based upon gross misinformation, that I address this work in hopes that it might at least prompt them to investigate what the Bible really says. And to Christians who view the Bible as just an ancient book with little relevance to life today, and especially to fellow Christians who accept the sacred scriptures as literal truth, I hope that your faith will be still further
strengthened.
We will particularly consider the question: Does scientific knowledge threaten Christian faith?
